Food Guide Pyramid
This pic is for you Jess!!!
In my class we have been working on the Food Guide Pyramid, which I think is awesome! (i would being a Foods teacher). If you haven't seen the new food guide pyramid I would highly suggest you check out mypyramid.gov. They have personalized the pyramid for each individual and added in physical activity in the mix. They really did a good job with it.
So my kids have been keeping food journals, and have been entering their food into the website, and writing papers on their goals and what they have learned. Today we made cookies. I had them cut out triangle, and we frosted them. Each student have the take their information and using mini m&ms had to make their pyramid cookie based on their results from the past few days. I walked around and had eat kid explain their cookie to me. If i saw only one red m&m, i knew that they didn't eat enough fruits, since red represents fruits on my mypyramid. If they had too many grains, they much a lot of orange.
The cookies came out great, and I was able to see how much the kids were learning. I made up this cookie activity two days ago, and am always happy when my visions come out the way i see it.
i really love teaching!
