Memory: The Mall Trip That Never Was
Jess and I were in high school, and it was the perfect evening to go over to the palisades mall ( only a 45 min drive from our house). I had never been there on my own, but knew for the most part where I was going. Mom kept saying, "You'll see it on your right hand size" "You can't miss it". She lied!!
I had gotten 3/4's of the way there. I was on the palisades parkway. I knew i had to be close. So I just kept driving, listening to my music, jess sleeping in the seat next to me. I had driven way too long, and decided I should turn around because I had probably missed it. So this time, I turn around, turn the music down (because that's what lost people do) and slowed down. I drive until i get to where I almost started on the parkway. I see no big mall, no signs for a mall...nothing! Now I'm getting mad!! I turn around again. Jess is up at this point, trying to help in anyway she can. I am now FLYING down the parkway because the 45 min drive had turned into over an hour, and we would only have TWO HOURS left in the mall! ( heaven forbid).
So I keep driving, and all of a sudden there are signs for the George Washington Bridge! I KNOW I don't want to go over that, and so I take the last exit before the bridge and turn around....again. I call mom completly mad, and she has no idea what to tell me. We didn't think to use mapquest in these days, so she kept saying "Stop yelling at me, you will see it on ur right". WRONG. I wonder if there was a cop on the side of the road watching me drive past him four times in my little white cabrio convertible. I'm sure the sight of me would have been amusing to watch. Oh wait, just ask jess!
So its been almost an hour and a half, and I decide I'm just going to get off the exit that saying "Something.....palisades". It brings us into a small town. We stop and ask directions. Left right left left. Okay, so we do that..... No mall. We stop agin. The person has no idea what we're talking about nor does he speak english, but he still gives us directions to something. We follow them. No mall. Next person has never heard of the palisades mall, but thinks its down "such and such" a road, with a few lefts and rights. After asking over 5 people ( i think one spoke english), we end up at a TGI Firday's. No, not the mall. We are so tired of being lost that we just give up, and want to eat!
The first thing we ask when we walk in is....Where are we? Turns out, we were in some town that sounded like Hakensack, and not even in NY. We laughed for hours, got pina colada's, appetizers and the whole works. The nice waiter was able to give us directions that did in deed get us back to NY. He spoke English!
So the morale of the story is...... GPS! That would have saved us a world of trouble, but then again, it wouldn't account for the hilarious memory that I have of Jess and I getting lost on our way to the mall!!!
Any other funny getting lost stories???? Share!!
