Landon on the Doorstep (Stacey)

Remember Landon...the guy who decided to come to NY and spend New Years with me, but really just drove me crazy the entire time! Well here is what I wrote about him in a document on my computer called "Dating Stories". Poor Landon! He makes Jake look sooooooo good! haha

Landon:
“I’m going to go call my cousin, to see if he can pick me up at the airport tomorrow night”
I look from my sister’s bed at Landon and say “okay”, and in my head I’m thinking I don’t need a play by play of what you are doing. You are a man, you are 23, you don’t need my approval, do whatever the heck you want.

I turn back to my conversation with Jess, as we sit on her bed looking at the baby and talking about her move to Texas with Jeron. After five minutes mom walks in the room
“Where is Landon?”
“I don’t know, calling his cousin somewhere”

Three minutes later, Jeron walks in the room.

“Where’s Landon?”
“Calling his cousin, why do you ask?”
“Just haven’t seen him since we got home”
“Yeah he’s somewhere around here”

After the conversation with Jess fizzles out, I make my way down stairs, to check my phone, which has been charging, hoping to see a text message from Jake. As I walk towards it, I see the red light flashing which means either a missed call or a text message. I smile as I reach for the phone, and then frown.

‘Landon? Why is he calling me?’ I notice the call was placed ten minutes ago.
‘Hum?’

I press the TALK button which connects me to Landon’s phone. He picks up after a few rings.

‘Hi! Whatcha doing?’ I say, coming across more composed then I really am at the moment.
“Just standing here”
‘Standing where?’
“Outside”
‘Are you talking to your cousin?’
“No, he didn’t pick up”
‘So, then why are you still outside?’
“The door is locked”
‘No it’s not’ I say as I start to stand so I can rescue Landon from the cold rainy night.
“Yes it is, I couldn’t get it opened”
ARE YOU KIDDING ME is flashing through my mind!

I walk up the stairs to the front door, open it, step outside with him on the porch, close it behind me, look at him, then at the door, and then open it.

‘See’
“Oh, it wouldn’t open for me”
‘So you stood out here for ten minutes, waiting for me to call you back?’ !!!!!!!!!
“Yeah”
Why didn’t you knock? Everyone is home. I walked past this door to get downstairs.”
“I didn’t know. I’m sorry. Are you mad at me?”
‘Of course not’, I say outloud, but as I walk back inside and into the kitchen I’m thinking, ‘How did I manage to find this kid, accidently tell him he can come to New York for New Years, and then have to show him how to open a door!! Am I being punished? Nevermind finding Mr.Right Mr. Right, because I wound up with a week of Mr. I Stand In The Rain Waiting To Be Rescued. It’s bad enough that he follows me from room to room in the house, but at the mall, I actually had to push him back two feet, because I almost hyperventilated while looking through a rack of clothes as he was pratically standing on top of me.

Of course being the composed woman I am, just smiled, laughed and gave a little “Ha Ha, your so funny.” But it wasn’t very funny, it was very annoying and borderline...borderline, I don't know what borderline, but it was borderline something!

We walk in the door from the rainy night together. Only one more day! One more day, and then I will be putting him on a plane back to Utah, the same Utah where wonderful Jake exists. How do these two guy come from the same place. I am calm thinking of just being in the same room as Jake. Poor Landon. With people like Jake, I don't know how he will ever win a girl.

That has to be one of the funniest stories in our family. A real classic.
